July 12 We will be hearing how Leif Ericson converted the Vikings to Christianity. We will also be talking about puffins and the beautiful nature of Iceland. Each week, the children spend thirty minutes with a music teacher to learn religious and cultural songs.
July 19 On this night, we will be using our imagination to visit Videy Island which is about a five minute ride by ferry across from Reykjavik. On Videy Island is the Peace Pole that Yoko Uno sponsored as a memorial. Videy Island also has the ruins of an Augustinian Monastery dating back to the middle ages. We will also be talking about whales and the Arctic Circle.
July 26 Reykjavik is a wonderful city. The National Cathedral, Hallgrimskirkja will be our topic of conversation. Our organist, Dr. Ray Urwin will be teaching the children and youth about the organ via the flat screen. Iceland’s National Cathedral has a large beautiful organ. The true life of Saint Nicholas will also discussed.
August 2 We will be talking about the volcanoes, glaciers and geothermal pools. We also will be learning about Icelandic horses and polar bears. Saint Olaf, Saint Brendan and Saint Tholak Thorhallsson.
