Help Us Complete Our New Chapel
With Father Michael’s and the chapel committee's leadership, the space in the North Wing has become a sacred space for small group worship and private prayer, expanding our spiritual experiences at Saint Michael & All Angels.
The first steps involved clearing the room so we could “try” out how we might use it and what might need to be added. The classes that once met there for secular activities graciously adapted to new spaces on our campus. New placements were found for Items that had been dropped off for storage. We began to explore what it would mean to our community to have a more intimate place to communicate with God.
And we liked what we learned. The Tuesday morning worshippers adjusted the furniture and found meaning looking out on God’s creation. Wednesday afternoon worshippers prayed for healing within a more contained, personal space. These are two regular worship experiences that are “changed” because we have tried a changed approach. Perhaps you have likewise sensed something new, spiritually, in the chapel.
At Saint Michael’s, our campus is beautiful and open to the Spirit. Our sanctuary leads us to the high altar and affords a big space for congregational worship, our grounds speak of a community that is connected to stewardship for our island home, our classrooms and gym show our love of the young and building Christian families. It is exciting to enlarge our prayer life and worship with a chapel that seems to be working new growth within us.
How can we join together to advance this work? Your donation for paint, electrical upgrade, new carpet, liturgical elements that are now missing, and seating will make the completion of the chapel possible. Already several donors have come forward and the Vestry has committed seed money from a gift to the parish, so that we share the load and the struggle is not great. Your financial participation is valued and similar to the Maji’s gifts -- your gift as well will celebrate Epiphany, the recognition of God incarnate.
Gifts for the chapel improvements may be indicated on your check and will go to the Chapel Fund. If you have questions, please contact any of the committee members: Lynn Headley, Melinda Rader, Cathy Dunlap, Judy Brady, Burton Karson, and Norris Battin.
