A Big Welcome to Michele McCarthy
The Wardens and Vestry are very pleased to welcome Michele McCarthy to St. Michael and All Angels staff team where she will serve as our new Communications Specialist.
Michele was born and grew up in Maryland and was raised a Seventh-day Adventist. In her early 20s she lived for a couple of years in southern California, but a late-stage cancer diagnosis of her mother brought her back to the east coast to help. She wound up living and working in the Washington, DC area for the next six years. But the memory of her California lifestyle haunted her, so when things were aligned in her life such that no more ties existed to the area, she resigned from her job, moved her belongings into storage, bought a one-way ticket to California, and started looking for work. She landed a job with SUNSET Magazine and the rest is history.
Spiritually Michele spent many years “wandering in the wilderness” and has had a long and circuitous journey to the Episcopal Church. A significant relationship led her to become a bona fide Catholic. Then a move to downtown San Jose brought her into contact with Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where she sang in the choir for four years. She later moved to sing at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Saratoga, California, where she also worked for five years as communications specialist. She likes to say she came for the music but stayed for everything else. Received into the Episcopal Church in 2015, Michele feels she’s finally found a Church she can fully embrace.
Michele’s professional background includes more than 30 years communications experience in all kinds of media. She earned two post-graduate certificates from UC Santa Cruz in interactive media design and social media marketing management. As such, she loves to work with words and images and couldn’t be more thrilled to be doing so for the benefit of St. Michael and All Angels!
One of Michele’s favorite scriptures is “How beautiful…are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, ‘Your God reigns!’” She takes that to heart as the guidepost for how she treats communications as a ministry.
